Professional Development is important for celebrants:
This year, our focus shifts from new-entrant training to professional development for existing celebrants, in response to the requirements of celebrancy. Through discussions with others, particularly those in the funeral profession, the number of new celebrants is overwhelming. Many no longer meet with new celebrants who have trained online, as they see a huge discrepancy in the level of training compared with those who’ve had practical, hands-on training. Some insurance companies are no longer insuring those who’ve participated only in online courses.
Although we will train a few new celebrants a year, we will be capping the number, as we focus on offering professional development sessions online, and in-person, to those who wish to continue to thrive in this market.
All professional roles have a criterion of continuing professional development, or CPD, and this is important for celebrants because it helps them stay competent, relevant, and confident in a role that is both professional and deeply personal.
Here are the main reasons that celebrants should participate in continuing in professional development:
