Course Description

Wednesday 6th May · 7:00 – 8:30pm Learning outcomes: To understand what Equality, Diversity & Inclusion mean To identify where Equality & Inequality exist in Society To develop knowledge of diversity in all its forms To identify multiple identities To consider inclusive practice and language when working as a celebrant – including conscious and unconscious bias To discuss/review Equality legislation including 7 types of discrimination Summary of Themes and Training Content: Definitions of Equality, Diversity & Equity : our thoughts and ways in which we can promote fairness, avoid prejudice and stereotyping Activity on Equality & Inequality in society – where they are seen and the benefits/dangers they present Definitions of types of diversity and identification of multiple identities vs stereotyping Working with people and inclusive language – ensuring EDI is respected when working with others and reviewing our language to ensure we meet the needs of our clients Discussion on types of discrimination linking to Equality legislation About the Trainer: Alison Jowett is a freelance Education, Training and Quality Consultant (and newly qualified Celebrant!) She has been working in the education sector for over 25 years for both the public and private sector. She is a qualified Teacher, Trainer, Assessor and Verifier and also has a background in HR. Ali has been writing and delivering training sessions on subjects such as Leadership & Management, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, Mental Health & Advocacy for the last 5 years. She lives in Tunbridge Wells with her Husband Chris, two cats Oscar & Winnie, and has one daughter and three step-daughters – with an ever growing brood of grandchildren (two more currently cooking!) Her passions include baking (having previously owned a coffee shop where she made all the cakes herself) and reading, although she confesses she has recently become hooked on audio books – she particularly loves a good murder mystery. Her guilty pleasure is Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple.
