Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Policy

At Celebrant Circle Ltd. we are fully committed to promoting and upholding the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) in everything we do. As a celebrant training and membership organisation, we recognise the value of fostering an environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, and where individual differences are celebrated.

Our Legal and Ethical Commitment

We are guided by the principles set out in the Equality Act 2010, (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/equality-act-2010-guidance) which legally protects individuals from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society. This includes protection based on the following protected characteristics:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • Gender reassignment

  • Marriage and civil partnership

  • Pregnancy and maternity

  • Race

  • Religion or belief

  • Sex

  • Sexual orientation

Discrimination, harassment, or victimisation on any of these grounds is not tolerated in our organisation.

Our EDI Principles in Practice

We actively work to ensure Equityy, Diversity and inclusivity by:

  • Providing equal access to training opportunities for all students, members, and staff, regardless of background or personal circumstances.

  • Encouraging and supporting individuals to express their identities without fear of judgement or exclusion.

  • Regularly reviewing our training materials, language, and case studies to ensure they reflect a wide range of cultures, identities and life experiences.

  • Promoting awareness among our trainers and staff through ongoing EDI training and development.

  • Responding promptly and appropriately to any reports of discrimination or bias.

Guarding Against Assumptions

To ensure an inclusive and equal learning or membership experience, the Celebrant Circle is proactive in guarding against unconscious bias and assumptions. For example:

  • We do not assume a participant’s gender identity or preferred pronouns. We ask and respect their preferences.

  • We avoid making assumptions based on accents, names, physical appearance, or personal circumstances.

  • We offer celebrant scenarios and case studies that reflect diverse ceremonies including non-religious, interfaith, same-sex, and gender-diverse celebrations.

Individual Needs and Reasonable Adjustments

The Celebrant Circle recognises that students, members, and staff may have individual needs that require specific accommodations. We are committed to making reasonable adjustments to support equal access and a positive learning experience, including:

  • Providing course materials in accessible formats (e.g. large print, digital audio).

  • Adjusting training times or formats to accommodate learners with caregiving responsibilities, disabilities or religious observances.

  • Offering one-on-one support, where needed, for learners with specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia.

  • Ensuring our venues (or online platforms) are fully accessible to all, including those with mobility challenges or sensory impairments.

Zero Tolerance for Bullying, Harrasment and Victimisation.

At Celebrant Circle Ltd. we coperate a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying, harassment or victimisation of any kind. All students, members, and staff have the right to train and work in a safe and supportive environment, free from intimidation, hostility or unfair treatment.

Any behaviour that causes distress, humiliation or offense—whether verbal, physical, written or online—will be taken seriously and addressed promptly in accordance with our complaints and disciplinary procedures. We encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses such behaviour to report it without fear of reprisal, and we commit to handling all concerns with sensitivity and confidentiality.

Feedback and Continuous Improvement

At Celebrant Circle we welcome feedback from our students, members, and staff on how we can improve our approach to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. This helps us to:

  • Identify and eliminate any barriers to participation.

  • Continue to evolve and improve our practices in line with current best standards.

  • Ensure our policies remain relevant, effective, and responsive to the needs of our learning community.

This policy is reviewed annually to ensure it reflects our commitment and current legislation.

We believe that embracing diversity enriches the celebrant profession and contributes to a more inclusive society.
